Samsung launches Corby TV and Metro TV in India

Samsung has announced two new variants of its CDMA Corby and Metro phones. The Corby TV and Metro TV now features a customized application that will allow users to watch Live TV or recorded content.

The app known as MimobiTV Mobile TV is developed by Apalya and gives users on-demand content streaming of more than 40 channels on both CDMA 1X and 3G networks.

Samsung to launch its own operating system ‘Bada’

Samsung Electronics, which is expecting its dual sim phones to contribute 15 per cent of its total handset volumes this year, will launch its own Operating System, Bada, in the second quarter of next fiscal, said Mr. Ranjit Yadav, Director, Mobile and IT, Samsung India here on Wednesday.

He was here on the occasion of the launch of two new dual sim handsets (B-5722 and Duos 259) taking the number of company’s dual sim handsets to six, including GSM and CDMA segments, in the range of Rs. 4,620-10,650.

Micromax is now India’s third-largest GSM mobile phone vendor with a market share of 6 percent after Nokia (62 percent) and Samsung (8 percent), according to research firm IDC. It sells anywhere from 700,000 to one million mobile phones every month. And by its own estimates it is now selling nearly Rs.1,500 crore worth of phones annually.

“We are not the poor cousins of Nokia,” says Vikas Jain, one of the four friends who together started and grew Micromax to its present position. “Instead we will force Nokia to launch newer products to compete with us.”

Airtel joins race to tap mobile apps market

India’s largest mobile operator, Bharti Airtel, has joined the race with handset makers such as Nokia, RIM (maker of BlackBerry) and Samsung among others to get a share of the mobile applications market in India.

Bharti’s app store is set to go live on Wednesday (February 10) with over 1,200 applications making it the first Indian telco to attempt replicating the highly successful business model of Apple, the pioneer in this space.

Samsung launches new ‘Giorgio Armani’ smartphone

Samsung Mobile India has launched its new cell phone Giorgio Armani in the Indian Market. Giorgio Armani is a Windows based touch screen mobile and is mainly aimed at the business class.

The handset is the third that Samsung has launched in collaboration with Armani. The other phones were Giorgio Armani Samsung mobile launched in 2007 and Emporio Armani Samsung Night Effect launched in 2008.
