For the entire duration of the IPL, cricket enthusiasts enjoying the action on YouTube on an Airtel Broadband connection, will have a free upgrade to a speed of 2mbps. Airtel broadband customers will therefore be able to enjoy a ‘buffer-free’ live cricket viewing experience on www.youtube.com/ipl from 12th March – 25th April. Bharti Airtel Limited (“Bharti”) and Zain have agreed to enter into exclusive discussions until 25 March 2010 for the acquisition of Zain’s African unit (Zain Africa BV) based on an enterprise value of USD 10.7 billion.
This potential transaction does not include Zain’s operations in Morocco and Sudan and remains subject to due diligence, customary regulatory approvals and signing of final transaction documentation.
In a bid to boost the Blackberry Mobile services, Bharti Airtel India’s largest GSM mobile service operator today announced the launch of Unlimited Chat and Email service over BlackBerry phones just at Rs.99 per month.
Before you jump with joy, let me clarify it-The service is only for new Blackberry service subscribers and available on BlackBerry smart phones with Airtel Postpaid connections. As a promotional offer, the monthly service charge of Rs.99 is for first 6 months from the date of activation and after 6 months the regular BlackBerry plan charge of Rs.299 per month will be applicable.
India’s largest mobile operator, Bharti Airtel, has joined the race with handset makers such as Nokia, RIM (maker of BlackBerry) and Samsung among others to get a share of the mobile applications market in India.

Telecom major Bharti Airtel has clinched a deal to buy a controlling stake (70%) in Bangladesh’s fourth-biggest mobile phone operator Warid Telecom. The deal will be announced in New Delhi on Tuesday, people familiar with the development told ET.
It is also learnt that, India’s largest telco has got political clearance from the Bangladesh government, including the country’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who is currently on a visit to India.
Bangladesh’s telecom regulator approved Bharti Airtel’s proposed $300 million investment in a 70 per cent stake in Abu Dhabi Group’s Warid telecom, the fourth-largest mobile company in the country.
“We have approved Bharti Airtel’s plan to buy the Warid stake,” Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman Zia Ahmed told a local newspaper.
The country’s largest mobile operator, Bharti Airtel, on Tuesday took the tariff war abroad as it launched pay-per-second plan for its US customers using calling card to make calls to India.
With this, Airtel became the first to offer pay-per second plan on India calling cards in the US.
As per the plan, the $6.99 calling card comes with an administration fee of $0.49, offering customers a tariff of just 0.03 cents/sec on the balance $6.50. The card has a validity period of 30 days.
Shares of two telecom companies fell 1.18% to 3.58% as tariff war further intensified after Tata DoCoMo extended its per-second-billing scheme to roaming calls.
