ZTE and Vivo launches world’s first low-cost handset with digital TV in Brazil

April21, 2010: ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced the Brazilian launch of the new handset N290, a low-cost cell phone with digital TV in Brazil.

Available exclusively through Vivo, the mobile phone will be available in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo from this week, priced at BRL 399 for the pre-paid version and BRL 199 for the post-paid plan. It will be available in other Brazilian cities in coming weeks where Digital TV signals are just available.

Uninor to launch services in 5 more hubs within 3 months

April 20, 2010: Uninor, a joint venture between Unitech and Norway’s Telenor, said it is planning to start services in five more hubs (each hub includes a few circles), within the next three months.

Speaking to Telecom Yatra, Allan Bonke, executive vice president, Delhi hub, Uninor, said, “Since we operate as hubs, we are planning to get five more hubs within the next three months.”

ZTE ventures in CDMA, GSM handsets in India in next 2-3 months

April 20, 2010: Chinese telecom firm ZTE will start selling handsets in the open market and will launch 10-12 models in both the GSM and the CDMA space in India under the ‘ZTE’ brand in the next 2-3 months.

“We are in the process of retailing mobile handsets in the market and our products will become available across India in the next two to three months,” ZTE chairman and managing director DK Ghosh said.

3G auction: Bid up 73% to Rs 60.68 bn

April 20, 2010: The pan India bid price at the 3G auction has reached Rs 60.68 billion, 73 per cent up from the base price of Rs 35 billion, after the end of the eighth day. A total of 46 clock rounds have been completed.

Mumbai and Tamil Nadu have joined Delhi with bids for more than Rs 6 billion. The bid for Delhi circle was Rs 6.91 billion, while Mumbai trailed at Rs 6.35 billion and Tamil Nadu Rs 6.06 billion.

No mobiles at IPL semis and finals

Cricket fans with mobile phones will not be allowed inside the 60,000-capacity Dr D Y Patil Sports Stadium in Nerul for the IPL semifinals and finals to be held this week.

Taking a tough stand on the security issue, following the blasts at the Bangalore IPL venue, Maharashtra DGP A N Roy told reporters on Monday that the mobile ban was necessary in the current scenario. “We will also not be allowing any food item or water bottles inside the stadium and spectators are expected to come to the venue a good two hours before the start of the match,” said Roy.

Nokia 2690, 1800, 1616, 1280 launched in India

Nokia India has launched 4 new mobile phonesmobile phones in the country. These are the  entry level models  namely the 2690 , 1800 , 1616 and the 1280.

These phones were first announced for Indonesia back in November last year and now they have made their way to states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in India.

Virgin Mobile launches ‘Indian Panga League’
