Belkin launches Google Skype phone for India

Belkin has launched a new Google Skype phone designed for Indian market. In order for the phone to work, only a wireless router is required (available at a cost of Rs. 1500) at home or office. This phone automatically logs in to the Skype account when in a Wi-Fi zone. It also offers free unlimited calls to any other Skype phone globally and Rs. 1 per minute for ISD calls to any other mobile number.

Other features of the phone include storage capacity of 500 Skype and Skype out contacts. It has call hold/release, call pickup/park, muting, redial and call-timer display functions like in any other phone. It also has high voice clarity.

TCM Mobile and Ganton to Launch First Cellular VoIP Network in India

TCM Mobile LLC announced today it has signed an MOU with Ganton Limited to deploy a commercial cellular VoIP operating network in India. This will be the world’s first commercial network to utilize TCM’s revolutionary, patented telecommunication technology, and will be rolled out to an initial 500,000 subscribers with a project capex of US $300 million dollars. The specific operating territory is currently being designed and will be announced in the coming weeks.

Telecom Commission to decide on Net telephony, Soon

Telecom Commission, the decision-making body for telecommunications, will take a call on allowing unrestricted Internet telephony in the country on Monday. Internet telephony will allow consumers to make STD calls as cheap as 10-40 paise per minute and also make free local calls from their computers.

Operators angry over TRAI’s recommendations on Internet telephony

VoIP LogoCellular operators on Monday fiercely opposed telecom regulator TRAI’s recommendation to allow internet service providers to offer unrestricted internet telephony services, saying it would be against the basic principle of level-playing field.

The GSM operators lobby COAI Director General T V Ramachandran demanded that there should be level playing field and that telecom regulator TRAI’s recommendations are against the very basic principle of level-playing field since they allow unrestricted internet telephony to ISPs at no additional cost.

Nimbuzz launches mobile VoIP service

Jajah adds India

California-based Jajah, a company that deals with voice over internet protocol (VoIP), today introduced a cheap long-distance calling facility for calls from and to India. Although currently priced at Rs 3 (per minute), calls to the US and Europe will soon be made free of cost for users, claims the company.

Jajah is a simple way to make cheap calls using the Internet – without headphones, microphones or software downloads.
