Live aarti to mobiles: Airtel

April 22, 2010: Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of Live Aarti service for its subscribers. Airtel subscribers will now be able to listen to live prayers from some places of worship in India which include Tirupati Balaji, Sidhi Vinayak, Shri Shirdi Sai Baba and Bangla Sahib.

In a press statement, the company claimed it was the first service on mobile offering live puja. Users need to call on different numbers from their mobiles for subscribing to different shrines and have to pay Rs 5 as a onetime membership fee along with a daily subscription charge of Rs 2 per shrine.

3G spectrum price shoots up

April 22,2010: The bid price for all-India 3G spectrum rose to Rs 6,968 crore, nearly 100 per cent higher than the base price, on Day-11 of the auction and is likely to go up further with operators now shifting to smaller circles.

The government will surely get Rs 28,228 crore from sale of 3G spectrum. This leaves a gap of less than Rs 7,000 crore from achieving the target of Rs 35,000 crore set by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee in his Budget for 2010-11.

MTNL introduces India’s first 3G mobile TV service

April 22,2010: State-run telecom operator MTNL on Thursday announced the commercial launch of the country’s first 3G driven mobile TV service in collaboration with Aksh Optifibre and Alcatel Lucent.

Mobile TV service would make multimedia and entertainment content available to MTNL mobile subscribers in the metro cities of Delhi and Mumbai.

3G auction: Bid up 73% to Rs 60.68 bn

April 20, 2010: The pan India bid price at the 3G auction has reached Rs 60.68 billion, 73 per cent up from the base price of Rs 35 billion, after the end of the eighth day. A total of 46 clock rounds have been completed.

Mumbai and Tamil Nadu have joined Delhi with bids for more than Rs 6 billion. The bid for Delhi circle was Rs 6.91 billion, while Mumbai trailed at Rs 6.35 billion and Tamil Nadu Rs 6.06 billion.

ZTE Telecom expects $4 bn business after 3G, WiMax rollout

April 17, 2010: ZTE Telecom, a provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, expects a business of $4 billion for the telecom vendor industry, which will be generated soon with the likely rollout of 3G, WiMax and other next generation communication services in India.

The company is eyeing about 10-15 per cent share out of this market, its chairman cum managing director D K Ghosh said here on Friday.

3G: price crosses Rs. 5,000 crore

April 17, 2010: For the first time since the 3G spectrum auction started, the provisional winning price for pan-India service crossed Rs. 5,000 crore on Friday, with Gujarat circle remaining most valued at Rs. 512 crore. As against Thursday’s winning price of Rs. 4,831 crore, this figure now stands at Rs. 5,095 crore after completion of 34 rounds of e-auction.

After Gujarat, the second most high-value service area is Delhi (Rs. 493 crore), followed by Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra (Rs. 483 crore each), Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh (Rs. 469 crore each) and Karnataka (Rs. 460 crore). The bidding for remaining 15 circles out of 22 is still to gain momentum.
