In order to launch two new value added services called Friend Circle and vGenie for its GSM subscribers, Mobile Tribe, a premier provider of blended social networking, messaging and rich media solutions for mobile carriers has entered into a partnership relation with Virgin Mobile India.
Friend Circle is the first blended social networking application on mobile devices across the sub-continent on their GSM service.
Following closely on the heels of iPhone 3GS launch in India, Bharti Airtel has announced that it will be launching the HTC Smart in India.
Unlike most of its more feature packed siblings, the HTC Smart is not powered by Android or Windows Mobile. HTC has instead opted to go with Qualcomm Brew. Smart is a pleasant looking device featuring a 2.8-inch resistive display and a three mega-pixel fixed-focus camera.
Aircel will sell the two latest handset models of British phone maker INQ Mobile as they try to tap surging demand for mobile social networking in the fastest growing major mobile market.
The deal is a milestone for INQ Mobile, a unit of Hong Kong’s Hutchison Whampoa, which so far has sold its phones mostly through Hutchison’s operators in different countries.
Handset manufacturer Karbonn Mobiles, a joint venture between Delhi-based Jaina Group and Bangalore-based UTL group, on Tuesday said it has inked a long-term sponsorship contract with the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Nokia, on Monday announced the launch of the world’s first money transfer platform through mobiles in India as it enjoys the market leader’s hip and a wide distribution network in the world’s one of the fasting growing handset market.
Niklas Savander, executive vice-president, services at Nokia, told a press conference that the pilot project has been launched in Pune last week in partnership with Yes Bank and Obopay, which runs mobile payments platform. He, however, did not divulge the time of the commercial launch of the project.
Bharti Airtel Limited (“Bharti”) and Zain have agreed to enter into exclusive discussions until 25 March 2010 for the acquisition of Zain’s African unit (Zain Africa BV) based on an enterprise value of USD 10.7 billion.
This potential transaction does not include Zain’s operations in Morocco and Sudan and remains subject to due diligence, customary regulatory approvals and signing of final transaction documentation.
